My 3 reasons for choosing to train in and practice Brainspotting

Since my teenage years I have always been interested in the mind and how it works. Later in my life I was able to train in the field of psychology, and I eventually became a therapist. I used talk therapy with clients who were struggling with a variety of issues, including trauma, anxiety and emotional regulation. In my office I saw how therapy can help people find relief, heal and live more fulfilled lives.

However, I always felt like there was something missing from my work as a talk therapist. Something that even my most motivated clients simply couldn’t tell me, or perhaps couldn’t access themselves. Through an inspiring colleague and friend (to whom I will be forever grateful) I learnt about Brainspotting therapy, and I have not looked back.

Why Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a cutting-edge neurophysiological treatment that uses eye movement to access and release traumatic memories. In my experience, it accelerates healing from trauma, and it can also be used to effectively address many issues such as anxiety, depression and OCD.

I was immediately drawn to Brainspotting because of its power, simplicity and effectiveness. I became a certified Brainspotting practitioner and I have been using it with my clients ever since.

I have seen first-hand the amazing results that Brainspotting can produce. Sometimes only a couple of sessions can bring about a breakthrough. Clients who have been struggling with symptoms for years, often have been able to notice the difference in a matter of weeks or months. Is Brainspotting magic? No, it isn’t. However, it is by far the most powerful therapeutic tool I know of.

Braispotting was developed by Dr David Grant only in 2003, it is still a fairly new approach and despite compelling evidence and studies, this therapy is not yet widely available through mental health networks. I am grateful that I can be part of this innovative space and that I can share this powerful tool with my clients.

Here are my 3 reasons for choosing to incorporate Brainspotting in my practice:

1.
I have seen for myself and through my clients that Brainspotting is a powerful and effective tool for psychological healing

2.
I am excited to be part of the innovative and cutting-edge approach to mental health, a new treatment beyond talk therapy

3.
I am confident that most of my clients respond to Brainspotting and together we can make positive difference in their lives.
